Mission
The mission of the South Effingham Middle School Media Center is to provide access to information for class work and projects. Opportunities are also provided for faculty, students, and staff to appreciate literature and enjoy reading for pleasure. Our goal is to use instructional and educational technology effectively so that faculty, students, and staff may become independent, life-long learners and decision makers.
Access
The media center is open daily from 8:00am to 4:00pm. The media center operates on a flexible schedule which allows individuals, small groups and classes to visit the media center as needed. Faculty, students, and staff are encouraged to visit the media center throughout the day for research, computer usage, checkout and pleasure reading.
Circulation
Students are allowed to check out 2 books for a 2 week period of time. Students are allowed to renew books as needed. Fines are assessed on overdue media center books. The overdue charge is $.05 per day, excluding weekends and holidays. Overdue, lost or damaged books must be paid for before the student will be allowed to check out any other books.
Children's Book Week
National Book Week celebrates the wonderful world of children's books. It is an annual focus on the enjoyment of reading, with the aim of encouraging as many children as possible to get into books. Each year the SEMS media center celebrates National Book Week. This year the celebration will take place November 12-16. Some of the activities planned for National Book Week are: student/faculty book swap, bookmark contest, name that book, special marked books, and forgive a "fine" Friday.
Book Fair
Each year the SEMS media center hosts two book fairs. The book fair is a special reading event that contains the newest and most exciting books. The book fair also offers skill-building software and educational toys. The Scholastic Book Fair will be held December 3-7.
